Summer is the perfect opportunity to sharpen skills and grow in areas you’re passionate about. For those who are looking to improve their basketball skills or simply have fun, UPBasketball is offering five weeks of summer camps where every athlete will be able to work on various aspects of their game as well as meet new people and create a strong community over the summer that will last beyond camp.

Camp with UPB entails a lot of fun but also keeps each player sharp and ready for when school starts up and season begins. One of the best things about camp is the environment that the coaches aim to exhibit day in and day out. This week-long journey consists of three hours of hard work and fun each day. With that comes the possibility of getting tired but that is something that coaches have taken account for and are prepared for in order to keep each player engaged and excited to be a part of camp.

“Three hours is a lot, so teaching them how to keep a consistent energy for the whole camp, how to encourage each other when you see your teammates tired, and how to communicate with each other on the floor, are all things we want to enhance within each player. Whether it be our mini games, or a race there are always moments to teach how to individually push yourself and how to be a good teammate,” UPB’s Lead Trainer, Hannah Johnson,  said.

Players will be taught a variety of different skills such as ball handling, shooting, and challenging drills. Although camp focuses on getting your reps in, it also focuses on habits that create a great basketball player even when they’re not on the court. Johnson emphasizes how each coach will make sure to incorporate lessons on creating good habits that keep your physical and mental state strong throughout summer.

Along with that, the energy brought to camps is what creates the environment that each player comes into. The coaches make it their number one priority to show up with 110% of their energy which then flows into the students.

“Our coaches make it. Their energy, their engagement, and their willingness to help kids get better just creates a really good welcoming environment,” Coach Hannah said. “We care, we enjoy the kids' energy, and we want to help as much as we can. Camp is a really fun environment, we have a great group of coaches that bring the energy and enjoy building relationships with the kids.”

Aside from challenging drills and scrimmaging against each other, summer camp is ultimately a space where kids can have fun doing what they enjoy doing while surrounded with people who are in it for the same thing.

If you haven’t yet, make sure to sign up for summer camp while it’s still open. Camps are available for players ranging from kindergarten to 9th grade.
