Player Development Coaches

Coach DyShawn

Coach DyShawn was raised in Corvallis, Oregon. He attended Corvallis High School, went on to play at Bushnell University for two years, and most recently finished his playing career at his hometown college: Oregon State University. There he was involved with the Oregon State basketball program during their unprecedented Pac-12 championship and NCAA tournament Elite 8 run. Upon graduating from Oregon State with a B.S. in Speech Communication, DyShawn is looking to begin his coaching career with the hopes of becoming an NBA & WNBA Skills Trainer. He is hoping to use his on-court development and film analysis skills to help develop players of all ages here in the Bay Area while working with UP Basketball.

Coach Danny

Coach Danny was born in Maryland and raised in the East Bay. He attended College Park High School, and then went on to play at Diablo Valley College over which time the league honored him to the all academic first team. Danny graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara. During his time at UCSB, he was dedicated to the basketball program and was able to actively provide knowledge to players while also refining his skills from experienced division one coaches. Upon receiving his degree in Sociology, Danny is looking to advance as a skills trainer and is also interested in pursuing a career in sports management. He enjoys training players at all levels while offering a style that will foster an everlasting love for the game of basketball. Danny is honored to be part of the UPB team and excited to impact players on and off the court.

Coach Russ

Coach Russ was born and raised in the Bay Area and attended Bishop O’Dowd High School. It was there that a foundation was laid for him to continue his basketball endeavors for four more years at Dominican University. From extremely early on, Coach Russ’ philosophy centered on “simplicity with detail,” meaning that focusing on mastering core skills leads to finesse on court and ability to expand into a well-rounded athlete. He is eager to bring energy and creativity and facilitate strong work ethic with each session on the UPB team.
