2024 Summer Camps Have Been Buzzing with Energy
By: Dylan Tehada
The facility has been buzzing this summer as the fourth Summer Camp just wrapped on August 1st. Led by Coach Hannah Johnson, this year’s Summer Camps feature themes that help athletes focus on specific skill sets and learn new facets of the game outside of the fundamentals. Coach Hannah has had the help of UPB’s amazing intern team including Coach Veronica Barrott (Coach V), Coach Noemie Bariteau, Coach Kaden Holdbrook and Coach Dylan Pegarido. All the interns have brought a great energy to the gym while coaching the camps and have displayed their love and passion for the game with every athlete they have encountered.
Energy has been the one defining characteristic of the camps this summer. Whether it be in drills or in scrimmages, the campers and their coaches have been focused on uplifting each other and maintaining high levels of enthusiasm throughout camp. Coach V and Coach Noemie have set a great example of maintaining high energy and supporting their athletes in everything they do.
“The highlights of our camps have been the energy and the hard work that these kids constantly give us. They always clap and cheer each other on during every drill,” said Coach V. “Seeing the kids improve each day and learn a new skill always makes us coaches extremely happy.”
Coach Vand Coach Noemie have both dedicated their lives to the game of basketball. They both embody the joy and dedication that constitutes a successful basketball career. Both coaches have participated in their fair share of basketball camps when they were growing up, and have done an amazing job fostering a fun and productive environment for the next generation of young hoopers. It means a lot to these coaches to give back to the UPB community and share their love for the game with young athletes.
“Being able to give back to the younger generation through these camps is a huge blessing to me. I loved going to basketball camps when I was young, so it’s an awesome experience to be able to help coach these camps,” Coach Noemie said. “I love encouraging young athletes and to help them improve their game just like some coaches did for me when I was a young camper.”
The last camp of the summer is right around the corner, kicking off on August 5th for 8th-12th graders. Athletes in this camp can look forward to loads of energy, high levels of competitiveness, fun games, and informative drills to continue elevating their game. The last camp will specifically focus on fundamentals such as ball handling and footwork and will even delve into more complex nuances like shooting off screens and shooting in live game situations.
We are extremely grateful for all the memories made in the gym this summer and owe it all to our coaches and athletes for helping make these camps come to life. We look forward to the many more camps that will take place at UPB in the near future and are excited to see the growth of the next generation of young hoopers!
