Recently, Coach Packie has had the amazing opportunity to work with some professional athletes from his favorite local championship team The Golden State Warriors and the 2 time MVP. Packie has worked with children age 6 and older to professionals players both here and overseas. He has a unique approach to teaching and making sure the game is always enjoyable. Many young athletes are passionate about basketball and he wants to help not only ignite that fire, but allow it to grow so that it never burns out.
Coach Packie attended Holy Names University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Sports Management.
Coach DyShawn was raised in Corvallis, Oregon. He attended Corvallis High School, went on to play at Bushnell University for two years, and most recently finished his playing career at his hometown college: Oregon State University. There he was involved with the Oregon State basketball program during their unprecedented Pac-12 championship and NCAA tournament Elite 8 run. Upon graduating from Oregon State with a B.S. in Speech Communication, DyShawn is looking to begin his coaching career with the hopes of becoming an NBA & WNBA Skills Trainer. He is hoping to use his on-court development and film analysis skills to help develop players of all ages here in the Bay Area while working with UP Basketball. Coach Danny was born in Maryland and raised in the East Bay. He attended College Park High School, and then went on to play at Diablo Valley College over which time the league honored him to the all academic first team. Danny graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara. During his time at UCSB, he was dedicated to the basketball program and was able to actively provide knowledge to players while also refining his skills from experienced division one coaches. Upon receiving his degree in Sociology, Danny is looking to advance as a skills trainer and is also interested in pursuing a career in sports management. He enjoys training players at all levels while offering a style that will foster an everlasting love for the game of basketball. Coach Sara was born in Macedonia and raised in Sydney, Australia. She attended Monte Saint Angelo Mercy College and later moved to the U.S. to play collegiate basketball. She played at UTSA for one year and then moved on to play at the University of California, Berkeley for the next four years. She graduated with an Undergraduate degree in Sociology and went on to play at Duke University. There she graduated with a Master’s in Business Administration. Due to a number of injuries and COVID, she later transferred to the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where she played her last year of eligibility and graduated with another Masters in Sports Management. Upon graduating from Illinois, Sara is looking to begin her coaching career with the hopes of becoming a college women’s basketball head coach. During her time at UP Basketball, Sara is eager to learn the intricacy and detail that goes into player development of all ages and intends to use these skills later in her collegiate coaching career.
Coach Russ was born and raised in the Bay Area and attended Bishop O’Dowd High School. It was there that a foundation was laid for him to continue his basketball endeavors for four more years at Dominican University. From extremely early on, Coach Russ’ philosophy centered on “simplicity with detail,” meaning that focusing on mastering core skills leads to finesse on court and ability to expand into a well-rounded athlete. He is eager to bring energy and creativity and facilitate strong work ethic with each session on the UPB team.
Coach Annelise was born and raised in Berkeley, California. She attended Campolindo High School playing varsity for three years. Annelise then attended Diablo Valley Junior College after suffering a knee injury. She transferred after one year to UC Riverside in Southern California. Annelise helped lead her senior team to become undefeated Big West Champions with a league record of 16 - 0. Annelise graduated with a degree in Public Policy. After college, she returned home to the Bay Area and started training with Packie at UPB to head overseas. Quickly signing a contract to play in Oliveira De Azemeis, Portugal for one season. Annelise had a breakout rookie season that was cut short by a season ending knee injury. Following the end of her professional career, Annelise took a step back from basketball to pursue other career opportunities. Currently, Annelise is teaching Special Education at Mills High School here in Millbrae. She is also completing her Masters at San Francisco State University. Annelise is excited to be back at UPB working with the incredible clients, families, and staff. She hopes to provide encouragement and insight through first hand experience for all of the athletes here at UPB.
Coach Jordan is originally from Frisco, Texas. She attended Frisco Liberty High School, and went on to play her first four years of college basketball at Northwestern University in the Big Ten and one year at Stanford University as a graduate student in the Pac-12. During this time, Jordan played a major role in rebuilding the Northwestern women’s basketball program into the winning team it is capable of now. While, Stanford was already a well established team, she was asked to join in plan of keeping that winning edge. Meeting amazing people along the way, she took part in winning a Big Ten Championship (first in 30 years), Northwestern’s first two consecutive NCAA appearances, and with Stanford a Pac-12 conference championship, Pac-12 tournament championship, the extent of their NCAA Final-Four run, and many all-academic achievements. Jordan graduated from Northwestern with a BS in Communication Studies and Business Institutions, and is pursuing a Masters in Liberal Arts at Stanford. Over the course of her student-athlete career, she was able to constantly refine her knowledge of the game while simultaneously having control over a rigorous course load. Jordan wants to continue her connection to the game of basketball by inspiring the youth. She wants to teach all training levels the endless possibilities one can achieve on and off the court. Jordan is excited to help the next generation of athletes grow their skill, knowledge, and hopefully love for the game of basketball.
Bianca Turner and Coach Packie Turner started UPBasketball in Oakland, California in August 2016. She grew up in Oakland and graduated from Santa Clara University with her Bachelors in Business Marketing. Bianca is passionate about creating an environment that teaches hard work and mental toughness. Each UPB program is designed with the athletes in mind. Ruta was born and raised in Lithuania. She moved to the United States in 2012 where she attended Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, TN. She played at Western Kentucky University for two years, during those two years the team made it to the NCAA tournament both years. In 2015 Ruta transferred to the University of Southern Indiana, where she finished her playing career and earned a Bachelor's degree in Sport Management. After graduation, she accepted a graduate assistantship position with Wichita State's women's basketball team. During two years with WSU, she was assisting the head coach with recruiting, marketing, player development, game-day operations, and scheduling. She graduated from Wichita State in May 2019, after graduating with a Master's degree Ruta moved to the Bay Area in June 2019 to pursue her career in sports administration and coaching. Madisen was born and raised in Sacramento, California. She went to Antelope High School where she was the head of the sports section for the school’s news team, Titan TV News. In 2016 she moved to Phoenix, Arizona to attend Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Journalism and a certificate in Sales and Marketing Essentials in May of 2020. As a sports reporter and journalist at ASU, she covered high school sports in the Phoenix area, ASU Athletics, the Arizona Fall League, and more. Currently, Madisen is back at ASU pursuing a Master’s Degree in Sports Law and Business at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. Daniel was born and raised in Burlingame, California. He is currently a senior at Burlingame High School where he is looking forward to studying finance in college. Daniel has trained with UPB since 2018 and officially became a member of the team in the Summer of 2022. At the front desk, Daniel greets our visitors, answers our phone, and helps maintain our gym. Daniel is excited to meet new people and become a part of UPB’s large community.
